Police have revealed an 11-year-old girl found dead at her home in Hertfordshire was strangled, as they wait to quiz her father.

Officers found the body of Rebecca Thompson at her home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on Saturday afternoon.

Her father Simon Thompson, 52, is in hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a car crash in the early hours of the same day.

Mr Thompson was arrested but is not yet well enough to speak to officers.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, involving a grey Volkswagen, at the Elstree Hill roundabout about 00:15 BST on Saturday.

Det Insp John Arthur, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, added he was "keen to hear from anyone who saw, or knows where Rebecca had been during Friday 21 June."

In tribute to Rebecca her head teacher, Rita Cooper, from Sacred Heart Primary School in Bushey, said she was a "hard working" girl who "did well in her learning" and "was looking forward to secondary school".
