Man charged over '£16m of heroin' found in lorry

A man has been charged in connection with a seizure of drugs with an estimated street value of £16m.

A lorry driver travelling from London last Thursday stopped in Letchworth and phoned police after becoming suspicious about the content of the load.

Officers recovered 88lbs (40kg) of heroin.

Knoll Bryan, 72, of Solon Road, London was charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and has been remanded in custody.

He is due to appear before St Albans Crown Court in December.

A 54-year-old woman also arrested in connection with the inquiry has been released on bail.
