Four stabbed after Twitter used to publicise Luton birthday party

An eighteenth birthday party in Bedfordshire ended with four stabbings when gatecrashers arrived after it was publicised on Twitter, police said.

Police said the party, at Play Football in St Thomas' Road, Luton on Friday, ended in a knife fight.

Officers were called to the gathering, where people aged 17 to 22 were celebrating, at about 23:30 GMT after reports of the stabbings.

Four people needed hospital treatment for leg, arm, back and face wounds.

Det Insp Sean Quinn said officers were trying to "piece together exactly what caused this disorder" and were attempting to "identify the person carrying a knife".

"This appears to be an isolated incident which involved a number of people who gatecrashed the party," he said.

"We know there were lots of people at the party who have yet to speak with officers and I would encourage them to do so now."

All those injured have since been released from hospital.
