Police are checking hours of CCTV footage after making five arrests when violence flared at the MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon League Cup tie.

Seven people were ejected from Stadium MK in Buckinghamshire on Tuesday.

Two arrested fans were suspected of assaulting stewards. Some invaded the pitch after an AFC Wimbledon goal.

"MK Dons is a family-orientated club and trouble at fixtures is rare," said Thames Valley Police Supt Jim O'Ryan.

A police spokeswoman said: "Investigations are ongoing and this includes viewing a substantial amount of CCTV footage."

MK Dons won 3-1 on Tuesday in only the second-ever meeting between the two sides.

Eleven years ago the old Wimbledon was moved 60 miles north to Milton Keynes by music mogul Pete Winkelman. Ten years ago the club was rebranded MK Dons.

AFC Wimbledon was a phoenix club founded by fans in 2002.
