A police constable accused of raping a 15-year-old girl has appeared in court.

PC Leigh Brightman, 36, of Tennyson Avenue in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, is also charged with misconduct in a public office and possessing indecent images and a film of children.

The constable was arrested in August and suspended from duty by Hertfordshire Police.

Luton magistrates bailed Mr Brightman to appear at the town's crown court later this month.

He is accused of raping the teenager on 9 August.

Four misconduct charges relate to police work between April 2009 and June 2014.

During his police service, the constable has been based at Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Rickmansworth and Hitchin.
