Luton lorry crash diesel spill closes part of M1

A lorry has crashed and shed its load of diesel, closing part of the M1 in Bedfordshire.

The motorway's southbound carriageway has been shut between junction 11, for Luton, and junction 9 for Kingsbourne Green, after the crash happened at about 14:00 BST.

Emergency services were called after reports of the lorry colliding with a van and a car, before striking the central reservation.

The driver has been taken to hospital.

The crash has caused major delays and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

A diversion is in place via A505 and the A5.
