A Burger King restaurant in Bedford has been badly damaged in a fire.

A passer-by called 999 when they saw smoke coming from the building at Interchange Retail Park in Kempston just after 03:00 BST on Friday.

Bedfordshire Fire Service said the blaze started in the drive-through before spreading to the roof.

Station Commander Lorraine Moore said an investigation into the cause of the fire was under way.

She said: "Approximately 10% of the building was destroyed and 100% smoke damaged."

The incident came to a close just after 06:00 BST.
