Homeless man Damian Whyte stabbed to death in Reading

A homeless man who was stabbed to death on a footpath in Reading has been identified by police.

The body of Damian Whyte, 33, was discovered by a member of the public at View Island, Caversham, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A post mortem examination revealed that Mr Whyte died of multiple stab wounds.

A 35-year-old man, from the Katesgrove area of Reading, has been arrested as part of the investigation and remains in custody, police said.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for friends of Mr Whyte to come forward with any information they have about his movements in the hours before his death.

Ch Insp Stan Gilmour, who is leading the murder investigation, said: "We need to know more about Mr Whyte's movements in the hours leading up to his death.

"My Whyte was very well known among the homeless community in Reading, which is a very closely knit group. He was often referred to by his friends as 'Tottenham Paul'."
