Driver dies after Berkshire M4 police pursuit

A driver has died after being involved in a police pursuit in Berkshire.

The 32-year-old was being followed by Metropolitan Police officers when his Ford Fiesta struck the central reservation on the M4 on Wednesday.

He got out of the vehicle but was struck by another car. He was airlifted to hospital but died there later.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed. Motorists faced delays after the crash between junctions 7 and 8/9 for Maidenhead.

Police shut the eastbound carriageway and two westbound lanes. The motorway was reopened at about 2000 GMT.

Police said the road closure was needed while officers carried out an investigation.
