Burglars set fire in Caversham charity shop

Burglars have broken into a charity shop in Berkshire and set fire to items inside.

They forced the rear door of Age Concern in Church Street, Caversham, Reading, on Tuesday night and started a fire in the store room.

Police said they were keeping an open mind as to whether the break-in was linked to any other other recent charity shop burglaries in the area.

They said patrols would offer local businesses crime prevention advice.

Det Con Joanne Waites said: "Charity shops depend on donations and kindness from members of the public, and this fire has ruined all their stock which can only damage their income.

"I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious people or vehicles in the area around the time of the fire."
