Royal Ascot ticket and hospitality sales up in 2011

Hospitality bookings and ticket sales rose at Royal Ascot in 2011 despite some poor weather.

Hospitality bookings rose by 12% and there was a 3.5% rise in ticket sales, Royal Ascot spokesman Nick Smith said.

The bad weather led to dress restrictions being relaxed on Saturday, allowing people to wear wellies.

He said: "We had to open up the Heath Village in the centre of the course for the first time for a couple of years due to demand."

More than 50 people were arrested during the five days of Royal Ascot - up from 10 arrests last year.

There were 80 arrests in 2009.
