Man tries to abduct schoolgirl in Farnborough

A Hampshire schoolgirl abandoned her bicycle and hid from a man who is believed to have been trying to abduct her, police have said.

The 12-year-old was walking with her bike in Chapel Lane, Farnborough, on Monday evening when a van blocked her path.

Hampshire police said the driver beckoned the girl and got out of the van when she refused to go to him.

The girl hid until the man returned to his van and then ran home.

The man, who was driving a large white van, is described as white, aged in his late 20s, about 5ft 10in tall, with brown eyes and black, medium-length hair with a fringe.

He was clean shaven with a large-holed piercing in his left ear. He was wearing a dark blue, long-sleeved top or possibly a boiler suit with a white T-shirt underneath.

Detectives are treating the incident, which happened at about 17:20 BST, as an attempted abduction.

They are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
