Slough teen arrested over laser shone at helicopter

A Slough teenager has been arrested after a green laser was shone at a Thames Valley Police helicopter on Sunday night.

The beam was shone at 21:10 BST as the helicopter was over the Berkshire town.

The crew directed officers on the ground to an address in Chalvey and a 13-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of endangering an aircraft.

Doug Mackay from the Chiltern Air Support Unit, said the laser could "potentially damage" the crew's sight.

He said: "When a laser is shone at an aircraft it will illuminate the cockpit.

"The intensity of the beam could potentially damage the eyesight of those inside and in the worst case scenario, it could disable the pilot and result in the aircraft crashing.

"However, we have the tactics to negate the effects of the laser, as well as the technology to identify those responsible for this type of incident."

The Slough teenager has been released on bail until 27 October.
