Woman's body found in River Kennet at Reading

The body of a woman has been recovered from the River Kennet in Reading.

Police were called by a passer-by who spotted the woman in the water near Cholmeley Road at about 10:00 BST.

Thames Valley Police said she had been in a wheelchair which was found next to the river.

The woman was pulled from the water by firefighters and taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

An investigation into the incident, which is not being treated as suspicious, is under way.

Det Ch Insp Linda York said: "At this time we have no information about the woman and we are trying to trace her next of kin.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area who may have seen this woman immediately prior to this incident to come forward."
