Consultation begins on Fosters Residential Care Home, Woodley

The future of a residential care home in Berkshire is in doubt because its buildings fall below recommended standards.

Wokingham Borough Council has launched a 12-week consultation on Fosters Residential Care Home in Woodley.

Stuart Rowbotham, commissioning director, said: "Because of the poor condition it will require substantial work to bring it to modern standards".

The council is looking at the option of alternative accommodation.

Fosters opened in 1964 and provides 24-hour care for the elderly and those with dementia.

Mr Rowbotham said any work to improve the facilities would cause considerable disruption to residents.

He added: "We do have an opportunity to offer a much better standard of accommodation to our older residents.

"At the same time, we also recognise the care and support at Fosters is greatly valued and held in high esteem by residents, their families and the local community."
