Thames Water in drought warning

Residents in Berkshire are being asked to conserve water to stave off a possible drought.

Thames Water has launched a river awareness campaign to try to reduce the strain on the River Pang.

A van with a large picture of the river will be driven around Reading to show people where their water comes from.

Simon Evans from the company said below average rainfall in 16 of the past 20 months had left supplies in a "precarious position".

"It's not just our problem, it's everyone's problem, and that's the message we are trying to communicate," he said.

"We're in this together, we need everyone to value water and use a little bit less because we aren't certain what the weather will bring."
