Patient dies after ward disturbance at Wexham Park Hospital
A 57-year-old hospital patient has died in Berkshire after a disturbance on a ward.
Two Thames Valley Police officers were called to help staff in Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, during the early hours of Tuesday.
The man, who was restrained by the officers, became unresponsive and died an hour later, said the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
The IPCC added it was investigating the circumstances of the incident.
The two officers were called to assist hospital security staff with a disturbance involving an in-patient at about 03:00 GMT. The man died shortly before 04:00 GMT, the IPCC said.
IPCC commissioner Mike Franklin said: "Initial accounts of the incident were provided by the two police officers involved.
"Investigators also met with members of the deceased's family and assisted in arranging an appointment for them to formally identify his body.
"IPCC family liaison managers met with family members yesterday to provide them with support and to update them on the progress of the investigation and I would like to extend my personal condolences to them at what must be a very difficult time.
"I can assure them that this independent investigation will be thorough in determining the exact circumstances surrounding this incident."
