Man's throat cut in bottle attack in Reading

A 23-year-old man required stitches to his neck after he was glassed in the face with a bottle in Reading.

The victim was with his girlfriend, who approached a group of teenagers in Rotherfield Way, Emmer Green, early on New Year's Day, to ask for a light.

One of the group then struck him across the face with a bottle which smashed, cutting his throat and forehead.

His injuries were thought to be life threatening but were not as severe as first feared, police said.

The offenders are all white, believed to be aged between 16 and 18 years old and were wearing baseball caps.

Anyone with information about the attack, which occurred at about 03:00 GMT, is asked to contact Thames Valley Police.
