Six people jailed over Makro store raid

Six people have been jailed over a raid on a Reading wholesalers.

About 40 people broke in to Makro, stealing £15,000 of goods, as riots engulfed towns and cities in England.

Conall Bascombe-McCarthy, 19, from the Whitley area of the town, was jailed for five years for violent disorder, burglary and drugs offences.

Paul Bentham, 39, received 14 months, James Lee, 26, and Noel Lewendon, 21, were each jailed for eight months, all for violent disorder and burglary.

Two others, Darren Thornhill, 18, and Jamie Brooker, 21, were jailed for six months for handling stolen goods.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named, who was convicted of disorder but cleared of burglary, escaped a custodial sentence.

All seven were from Whitley.
