University of Reading appoints 50 senior academics

The University of Reading is to appoint 50 senior academics as part of a £50m investment into research.

The university said the posts were part of its Academic Investment Project and would focus on six key areas including climate and environmental science.

The senior research roles will include chairs, readers and senior lectureships and will be advertised in two phases, a spokesman said.

The new staff will take up their posts in September 2012 and September 2013.

University vice chancellor Sir David Bell said: "This significant new investment is a statement of our intent to grow Reading's position of research strength across the university."
