Fire engine in head-on crash in Berkshire

A fire engine in Berkshire has been put out of action after being involved in a head on collision with a car.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service's Newbury appliance collided with the vehicle in Wantage Road, Donnington, at about 12:30 GMT.

The fire service said the vehicle was not responding to an emergency at the time of the crash.

The car driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The crew members were unharmed.

The fire service said the damaged fire engine had been taken out of operation but the service's ability to provide emergency cover for the area would be unaffected.

Both Thames Valley Police and the fire service have launched investigations into the incident.
