Inquiries continue into Newbury house deaths

Police van outside address in Berkeley Road, Newbury Police said early indications suggested there were no signs of a forced entry

An elderly man found with serious injuries in the same property as a dead woman has died in hospital, police have confirmed.

Police are treating the deaths of the woman, 89, and the man, 94, as unexplained.

They were found at the address in Berkeley Road, Newbury, Berkshire, on Sunday. The woman was declared dead at the scene.

The man died from his injuries at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Thames Valley Police said there was no sign of forced entry to the property. Post-mortem examinations are expected to take place later.

Det Ch Insp Gill Wootton said: "We are continuing to treat both of these deaths as unexplained until the post mortem results are known.

"We are yet to determine fully the circumstances which led to these people's deaths and will keep an open mind until all forensic tests and investigative searches are carried out on the property where they were found."

Next of kin have been informed but formal identification has yet to take place.
