Work on A339 Newbury rail bridge commences

Work to upgrade a Berkshire town centre railway bridge has started.

A higher barrier is being installed on the bridge which carries the A339 over the Reading to Taunton line near Newbury railway station.

The Highways Agency said the work would mean added protection for drivers and rail passengers and allow for the future electrification of the line.

The lanes on the A339 will be narrowed during the work which is expected to take around eight months to complete.
