Waltham St Lawrence traveller site eviction deadline flouted

Gypsy families flouted an order to leave an unauthorised site in Berkshire despite being given 28 days' notice.

Last month, the travellers were issued with a notice stating it must leave Five Oaks Farm in Waltham St Lawrence.

But earlier, families were still on-site, flouting the order by Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Borough Council.

Officials are to discuss the next steps to take. The Gypsy Council is seeking a judicial review of the order.

The council has said it will take "direct action" to clear the land if the travellers do not leave voluntarily.

However, they will be given at least 48 hours' notice.
