Berkshire sex attacker hunted by police

A 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in a "disturbing" late-night attack in Berkshire, police said.

The victim was crossing a bridge over a railway line in Reading when a man attacked her at 02:20 GMT on Saturday.

She had walked to the A4 Bath Road and crossed the bridge after being dropped off by a taxi in Berkeley Avenue.

Police were alerted by a member the public who found her in a "distressed state" after she managed to run away when the attacker was disturbed.

Det Con Alison Bennett urged witnesses to contact Thames Valley Police.

She added: "This is a disturbing incident which has left the woman shocked."

The suspect is white, aged 25-30, 6ft tall and of a medium build with a goatee-style beard. He wore a dark, hooded tracksuit.
