A man from Reading has been jailed after pleading guilty to assaulting and kidnapping a woman on Boxing Day.

Mark Withers, of Grazeley Road, Three Mile Cross had forced the victim from her house in Woodley at knifepoint at about 20:15 GMT, police said.

Withers had "dragged her down a number of streets" and drove off with her in a car but was stopped by police six hours later, a police spokesman added.

He was sentenced to a total of six and a half years at Reading Crown Court.

Investigating Officer Det Con Nathan Adby said: "I welcome the sentence given to Withers who has clearly shown that he is violent and dangerous individual, from whom the public need protecting."
