Officer dismissed by Dorset Police after assault conviction

A policeman convicted of common assault has been dismissed from Dorset Police.

PC Pete Lawrence, 42, was dismissed on Tuesday following internal disciplinary procedures.

He was sentenced in February to 200 hours' community service following an incident in March 2013 while he was off-duty.

He was also ordered to pay £1,000 costs, £1,000 compensation and a £60 victim surcharge.

Superintendent Dave Thorp, of Dorset Police, said: "Dorset Police and the public we serve expect high standards of behaviour from police officers and staff on as well as off-duty."
