Part of the M4 in Berkshire was closed for several hours after a multi-vehicle crash and diesel spillage.

The eastbound motorway towards London had to be closed at junction 5 for emergency resurfacing work. Drivers were warned of severe delays.

The Highways Agency said contractors had completed the work and all lanes had reopened by early evening.

Drivers heading for London and the M25 had previously been advised to use the M4 at junctions 8 and 9.
