One of Berkshire's best known department stores has been sold.

Camp Hopson in Newbury, owned by the Hopson family since 1921, has been bought by department store chain Morleys Stores Ltd.

Current chief executive Jonathan Hopson said the decision to sell was "recognising the need for significant investment in an increasingly competitive retail marketplace".

The buyer said it intended to invest £3m and retain the existing staff.
