A series of overnight and daytime road closures will begin in Wokingham later as three months of major roadworks enter their final phase.

The Station Link Road's southern section will close at 20:00 BST after work began on it in February.

Diversions will continue until Friday morning with resurfacing and roadway ironworks also affecting Barkham Road.

Last month, firms in the Berkshire town claimed their takings had fallen by 70% since the start of the diversions.

The work will mean Wokingham railway station level crossing will be closed to traffic overnight on Thursday, while the station will remain open.

Wokingham Borough Council has advised motorists to allow more time for journeys, warning local routes will be busier as a result of the works.

The 12-week upgrade to the area is due to be completed early next month and will result in a new one-way system.
