A £3m project to repair a deteriorating railway bridge under the M4 motorway at Reading starts later.

Delays are expected for four months during "essential" work to replace joints and waterproofing on the Mortimer Line Railway Bridge, Pingewood, Highways England said.

A 50mph speed limit will operate between junctions 11 and 12 until the end of July.

Eastbound overnight closures will be in place later and westbound on Sunday.

They will run from 22:00 to 06:00 BST and diversions will be in place. A 24-hour contraflow system will then be installed.
