An unlucky mouse came to a sticky end after trying to create a nest in a 155-year-old trap.
The dead rodent was discovered by Ollie Douglas, assistant curator at the Museum of English Rural Life in Reading.
The trap was dubbed the "perpetual mousetrap" by Colin Pullinger, as it was claimed that it would last a lifetime.
Mr Douglas said: "It was designed about 155 years ago. And here it is, still capable of catching mice, even though it was not baited."
