A man has been shot in a Reading park in what police believe was a targeted attack.

The 23-year-old was found in Prospect Park at about 20:00 BST on Monday, with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Thames Valley Police said the man was then taken by air ambulance to hospital where his condition earlier on Tuesday was said to be stable.

A 26-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident.

Detectives believe there is no threat to the wider public and are continuing investigations.

Supt Stan Gilmour said a police cordon was likely to remain until at least Wednesday to allow for searches of the area.
