The former owners of a Berkshire motor dealership have been found guilty of a £86,000 VAT fraud.

Charles Mogford, 53, and Julia Smith, 51, of Maidenhead, submitted a VAT claim for the purchase of 31 Land Rovers, when only two had been bought.

The pair were company directors of Auto Exporters UK Limited, which traded as Berkshire Land Rovers until July 2014.

Mogford was jailed for two years, while Smith was given an 18-month suspended sentence.

They were caught following an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
