The M4 through Berkshire is closed for the weekend for maintenance work.

The stretch between junctions 12 (Theale) and 13 (Chieveley) was closed overnight bothways and will remain shut until 06:00 BST on Monday morning.

Motorists are being diverted via the A4 through Newbury, Thatcham and Woolhampton.

West Berkshire Council said: "Significant delays are expected - allow for extra time or avoid this route where possible."

The closure is for work to lift new beams into position using large cranes on the two bridges that carry the M4 over Dark Lane and Ashampstead Road.
