Two arrested over fatal stabbing

Police investigating the death of a 19-year-old man from a stab wound have arrested two people.

Emergency services were called to Kingsbury Road, Erdington, Birmingham, at 0100 BST on Saturday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is thought an altercation between two groups started on Birches Green Road and moved on to Kingsbury Road.

Ch Supt James Andronov of West Midlands Police said the two groups which were fighting probably knew each other.

'Fighting in street'

"We have got two people under arrest who were in the area at the time," Ch Supt Andronov said.

"Detectives are questioning them at the moment to see if they were involved."

He added that officers were "looking for people in the area who might have seen a scuffle or people running and fighting in the street."

Gary Ferns, a 46-year-old delivery driver who lives close to where the stabbing happened, said he was woken as police cars and ambulances arrived on the street.

"I watched it from my bedroom window. The police cordoned the road off. By the time they got here, it seemed to be over," he said.

A 76-year-old man, who also lives close by, added: "I just saw the barrier across the road in front of the house. I am just glad my kids have grown up and gone."

Police said there was no link between the stabbing and the death of Yajay Sudra, who was fatally stabbed in Erdington as he walked home from work on 9 July.

A post-mortem examination was due to take place.
