Birmingham New Street station evacuated in fire scare

Passengers and staff were evacuated from Birmingham New Street railway station during a fire scare.

Network Rail said the fire alarms sounded at about 0920 BST prompting a full station evacuation.

British Transport Police said the alarm had been set off in error.

Staff were allowed back in at about 0930 BST. Trains were delayed for 15 minutes but services had returned to normal by 0950 BST, Network Rail said.
