Firefighters tackle Birmingham industrial unit fire
Part of a factory has been demolished in a fire at an industrial unit close to Birmingham city centre.
The blaze started just before 0600 GMT at Quality Lighting Design in Bridge Street, Newtown.
No-one was injured but at the fire's peak neighbours were asked to stay indoors amid fears there were acetylene tanks in the unit that could explode.
Nearby roads were reopened shortly after 0810 GMT when the fire had been brought under control, police said.
St Chad's School in Hospital Street and Brearley Street Nursery remained closed on Monday because of the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The business owner, Guy Shaw, said he was determined to make sure business did not suffer, despite the damage.
"We are a very strong business, we have being going for 22 years now and I am certainly not going to let something like this, bad though it is, put us out of business," he said.
He said he would work very hard to get things back on track.
