Man in court charged with Birmingham shopkeeper murder

A 26-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a shopkeeper who was stabbed in his store.

Suppiah Thaaemseelan, 48, died in his convenience store on College Road, Kingstanding, in Birmingham, on Saturday evening.

John Meenan, of Camberley Grove, in Erdington, appeared at Sutton Coldfield Magistrates on Tuesday. He is also charged with robbery.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday.

A man and a woman arrested on Sunday in connection with the robbery have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A third man has been arrested on suspicion of Mr Thaaemseelan's murder.

West Midlands Police said he was arrested on Tuesday and was in custody.
