A serious case review is to be held into the death of a boy in Birmingham, a committee has said.

Two-year-old Keanu Williams was taken to hospital from a house in Ward End on Sunday.

Police said post-mortem tests indicated the child, known as Kiwi, had died as a result of "non-accidental injuries".

A 29-year-old-man and a 22-year-old woman, thought to be his mother and her partner, arrested on suspicion of murder have been released on bail.

The pair were arrested on Tuesday and were released on police bail on Thursday evening.

Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board held a meeting over the matter on Friday.

Hilary Thompson, chairman of the board, said: "Following a meeting of relevant professionals, and on advice, I have decided that a serious case review will be conducted into the death on Sunday of a two-year-old boy in the Ward End area of Birmingham.

"It will be conducted under statutory guidelines and published in due course."
