Solihull car clamper jailed for parking scam

A car clamper has been jailed for 30 months for defrauding customers.

Steven Ryan was arrested in September 2009 in a police and trading standards operation. A ticket machine that officers said had been tampered with was seized.

The 55-year-old from Solihull was sentenced for conspiring to defraud and possession of an article to defraud at Birmingham Crown Court.

Ryan ran a firm called Car Clamping Securities (CSC), police said.

Many car clampers have been using illegal tactics on drivers in Birmingham, the city council said.

Councillor Neil Eustace said: "Illegal car clamping in Birmingham has been a subject of interest for some time now.

"Many car clampers have been getting away with using illegal tactics on hundreds of motorists in Birmingham, finding themselves victim to these types of scams, which has left victims out of pocket by many hundreds of pounds."
