Two hand grenades thought to have been left over from World War II have been discovered in the garden of a terraced house in Birmingham.

They were found by someone digging in the back garden of a house in Mary Vale Road, Bournville, at about 1430 GMT.

West Midlands Police evacuated immediate neighbours to the side and rear of the property and put up a cordon at the end of the road.

A bomb-disposal team was making the area safe, a force spokesman said.
