Arrest over Birmingham policeman's attempted murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was hurt in a pursuit in Birmingham.

Officers tried to stop a man driving a suspected stolen car in Lea Hall Road shortly before 2200 GMT on Thursday.

When the vehicle failed to stop one of the officers used a stinger device to try to punctures its tyres and was hit by the car in the leg.

The car was later found in Bromford and an 18-year-old man was arrested over attempted murder and car theft.

West Midlands Police said the officer was treated in hospital.
