Man critical after 'vicious' attack in Wednesfield

A man has suffered life-threatening injuries after suffering what police describe as a "vicious beating".

The 34-year-old was found face down in Duke Street in Wednesfield, in the Black Country, in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

A second man, aged 37, was found at the scene with minor injuries.

It is thought the pair, both from Wednesfield, had been dropped off nearby in a taxi shortly before, West Midlands Police said.

'Hold clues'

The victim is in a critical condition in hospital with a serious brain injury, police said.

Det Insp Gordon Roberts said he wanted any cab company who delivered a fare in the Duke Street area at around the time, at about 0200 BST to contact police.

"The victim has been subjected to a very nasty assault...there is evidence to suggest his attacker continued to kick and punch him while he was lying prone on the floor," he said.

"We'd like to speak to any witnesses or indeed anyone who was out in that part of Wednesfield in the early hours of the morning as they could hold clues to help get to the bottom of this attack."
