'Nasty assault' in Wolverhampton leaves man critical

A man from Wolverhampton is in a life-threatening condition after an assault.

The 34-year-old was found unconscious in Duke Street, Wednesfield, at about 0200 BST on Sunday.

West Midlands Police said they understood five people were involved and evidence suggested the attackers continued to kick and punch the man he was lying on the floor.

Another man, 37, also found at the scene, was treated for minor injuries at hospital and discharged.

Police said it was thought two white men and a black man assaulted the victims. Two women were also part of the group, though not believed to have been a part of the assault.

Police have said the pair had been dropped off at a local pub in the Duke Street area by a taxi.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses with information, or for any taxi company that delivered a fare to the area at that time, to come forward.
