A Birmingham primary school has been closed until further notice after a fire in its roof.

More than 60 firefighters tackled the fire at its height at Harborne Primary School.

Staff and children at the 650-pupil school managed to move to places of safety and three roads were closed.

A school statement said a meeting would be held on Thursday to discuss alternative arrangements for the children's education.

The statement said the school had been extensively damaged.

The fire broke out during Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews remained at the site during the night to continue the damping down process and will be at the site on Thursday to assess the damage and find the cause.

Structural engineers are also at the site.

Station Road, Emerson Road and Wentworth Road were closed for a time but all had reopened by 0700 BST.
