Man's leg impaled on railing in Whitmore Reans

A man has been taken to hospital after becoming impaled on a railing.

Ambulance crews were called to Newbridge Crescent, Whitmore Reans in Wolverhampton at 2240 BST on Saturday.

Crews had difficulty in reaching him as he was down a steep drop from the road, a spokesman said.

The man pulled his badly bleeding his leg from the railing and was brought up safely with the use of a stretcher and rope. He was then taken to New Cross Hospital for further treatment.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The man's leg had become impaled on a spike.

"He pulled his leg from the railing and it was bleeding badly.

"It was difficult for crews to get to him because of the steep drop from the road.

"Working with fire crews and using a stretcher and the fire service's safety rope, the man was brought up safely."
