Robbery suspect flees across Birmingham playing fields

Pupils were kept inside for their safety as a suspected robber was chased by police through a Birmingham private school's playing fields.

The 20-year-old man was later arrested after running across the fields belonging to King Edward's School, in the Edgbaston area of the city.

He was suspected of robbing a G4S van in Stratford Road, Sparkhill, at about 1530 BST.

The man was arrested near Winterbourne House in the Botanical Gardens.

Police said a man was seen escaping from the scene of the robbery in a black Vauxhall Corsa which was later found abandoned in Bristol Road, Edgbaston.
