Two men 'stable' after shooting in Middlemore Road

Two men have been taken to hospital after being shot in a West Midlands street.

West Midlands Police said officers were called to Middlemore Road, Smethwick, late on Sunday evening.

The men, aged 28 and 31, were taken to hospital where their condition was described as stable.

A force spokesman said the motive for the shooting was unclear and the men's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The location of the shooting has been sealed off for forensic examination.

'Pre-planned event'

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.

Det Insp Gary Dring said people had gathered at the scene for a BBQ.

"At this early stage the motive for the shooting and the precise circumstances are unclear," he said.

"We believe there were a large number of people in the area, following on from a pre-planned earlier event being held at the location in Middlemore Road.

"We are asking for anyone with information about the incident to contact us."
