The Leasowes Nature Reserve slides and swings stolen

Slides, swings and other equipment has been stolen from a play area at a West Midlands nature reserve.

The site for toddlers at The Leasowes, off Mucklow Hill in Halesowen, was targeted at some point after the reserve closed on Monday night.

The equipment was hacked down and the metal structures stolen.

A council spokesman said officials believe the items may have been taken to be sold as scrap metal. He described the crime as sickening.

Police and staff at the nature reserve are appealing for anyone who may have spotted any suspicious behaviour at the end of the bank holiday weekend to get in touch.

Scrap dealers are also being asked to keep an eye out for anyone trying to sell on the items.

Councillor David Stanley, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: "I can't believe that people can stoop so low as to target a children's play area in this way.

"This is a sickening crime and I hope that the culprits are caught quickly.

"If anyone has any information about the incident or spots any suspicious behaviour at any other sites across the borough, I would urge that they contact the police as soon as possible."
